Richley Dental Studio was established in 1984 and was incorporated under the Companies Act 1985 as a private limited company in 2004. RICHLEY DENTAL CERAMICS LIMITED.

Richley Dental Ceramics Limited is a medium sized exclusive full service dental laboratory, situated in Halesowen, Birmingham.

With eight GDC registered technicians (including my son Richard and nephew Matthew) we have the qualifications and experience to deliver meticulous craftsmanship with exceptional value. With a combination of talent, innovation and experience we want to provide dental surgeons and their patients with restorations that will recreate natural teeth. A leading laboratory following the DAMAS (Dental Appliance Manufacturers Audit Scheme) processes to ensure quality whilst delivering a family based service to dental surgeons. DAMAS registration number 110174.

Our aim is to bring the dentist and the technologist together for an optimal aesthetic restoration hence delivering high quality aesthetics for the patient and first class customer service for the dental practice. The scheme is supported by a host of dental industry partners: the British Dental Association, the General Dental Practitioners Association, Dental Protection, the Department of Health, the British Dental Health Association, the British Dental Trade Association and Denplan Ltd.
DLA -The Dental Laboratories Association Ltd (DLA) is a professional body for dental laboratory owners in the UK. Currently the Association has around 1000 members, over 50 of whom are affiliates. It is estimated that members of the DLA are responsible for over 80% of the dental laboratory services in the UK. All DLA member laboratories must abide by the DLA Code of Practice, which covers everything from their service and product descriptions to training and complaints handling.

Benefits of a DAMAS Laboratory

  • The laboratory undergoes a yearly site audit.
  • The laboratory's Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) registration is verified.
  • The laboratory's dental technicians are checked and verified as registered with the General Dental Council.
  • Patient contact materials are verified as CE Marked and fit for their intended purpose.
  • The laboratory's equipment maintenance processes are validated as appropriate.
  • The laboratory' post market surveillance and vigilance procedures are inspected and verified as complying with the law.
  • Purchasing and verification of purchase products to enable traceability of materials is inspected and verified to ensure recalling of devices is possible - should this be necessary.
  • Contract review and final inspection of appliances is audited to ensure compliance with the dentist's original prescription.
  • Statement and labelling of appliances including issuing the patient statement is verified as complying with the Medical Devices Directive.
  • Laboratory sub-contractors are verified as fit for the purpose they are intended for.
  • Staff training and competences are checked as verified as undertaken by the laboratory

DAMAS laboratories undergo yearly audits to gain certification to DAMAS to prove compliance with the Medical Devices Directive (MDD) and the Medical Devices Regulations (MDR) which is a legal requirement within Europe for manufacturers of custom made medical devices. Training

We develop training courses for Dental Surgeons and Nurses to enhance the understanding or crown and denture manufacturing to include new product development. This training course comes with certification of Continuous Professional Development Hours CPD

The team is lead by myself Shirley MacConnachie one of eight GDC registered technicians in Dental Technology.

In addition all apprentices are sent to gain formal qualification, The Dental Technicians Diploma at Matthew Boulton College Birmingham.

The laboratory has an ongoing commitment to training, with all technicians benefiting from internal and external courses ensuring that our team are always up-to-date with the very latest techniques.
